Payroll Stage 1
Whether you've just started out in business, you're used to DOS, or you've kept your payroll manually for years - this is the course for you. This course will show you how to set up and configure Payroll, ensuring that you go on to produce problem-free payroll runs in the future.

About the Course

This course provides a complete understanding of how to set up the Sage Payroll program, from setting up your own company preferences to holiday schemes. The course is also essential training for those users who have upgraded from a DOS version of Sage Payroll.
Note: This course is aimed at using payroll software and should not be regarded as a guide to payroll schemes and regulations.

System Overview
In this first session we will give you a general overview of the Payroll program, looking at screen layouts, function keys, general navigation and backup functions.

Company Settings
Here we will look at how to configure the program to best suit your company requirements, including e-banking and government legislation.

Pay Elements
Discover how to set up the elements of a payroll - including setting up payments, deductions, net payments and looking at pay element reports.

Access Rights
Learn how to control operators access to different parts of the program through password protection.

Employee Wizard
Look at how to set up both a normal employee and a director in the program by using the Employee Wizard. Learn how to produce employee record reports.

Employee Pay Elements and Global Changes
Learn how to edit / customise employee records so the program defaults to correct rates for each employee. Also edit as many employee records at the same time in one simple step using Global Changes.

Entering Year-to-Dates
Learn how to set up part way through the year by entering Year To Date figures for each employee by transferring the figures from the Inland Revenue P11 form.

Holiday Schemes and Absence Diary
In this session we teach you how account for holidays and use the absence diary.

Payroll Stage 2
This course lets you to grips with processing your payroll run, maintaining employee records, calculating sick, maternity pay, adoption, paternity pay and handling pensions. Become an expert in all of these areas, including the all-important Year End. Remember, legislation for payroll is stringent, so can you afford to miss out on the latest developments? This course will show you how to stay right up to date!

This course provides a complete understanding of the skills needed to operate Sage Payroll Professional and Sage Payroll. The course is also essential training for those users who have upgraded from a DOS version of Sage Payroll.

Note: This course is aimed at using payroll software and should not be regarded as a guide to payroll schemes and regulations. If you are not familiar with the set up and configuration of your Payroll program we strongly recommend you first attend the Payroll Stage 1.

Learn how to process Working Tax Credits.

Attachment of Earnings
Look at Attachments of Earnings and how to apply these to the payroll run.

Learn how to set up loans in employee records.

Common Errors
Discover the most common errors that are made when using the Payroll program and how to correct them.

Rollback and Restore
Look at two functions that enable you to go back to earlier processed periods and make any changes to employee payments or simply to re-print reports

Processing the Month End
In this session we show you how to process your Month End procedures and begin a new payroll month, with an automatic calculation of contribution that is due to the Inland Revenue.

Processing the Year End
Learn how to run that all-important Payroll Year End, ensuring you complete your payroll year successfully, and transfer over to the new year with ease.

Linking to Sage Accounting Software
In this session we show you how the Payroll program links to other Sage Accounting software programs.

Payroll Report Design
This course will give you a firm grasp on how to create your own reports using the program’s powerful report generator. You’ll also learn all about how to amend existing layouts – for instance, if you have employees with more deductions and withholdings than the standard payslip layout permits, you’ll learn how to include those. You’ll be a complete Sage Payroll operator in no time.

About the course
This course helps you make the most of the report designer supplied with Sage Payroll and Sage Payroll Professional. Please note: This course is not suitable for Instant Payroll users.


Basic Concepts
Discover how to amend the standard system reports and page layout, and how to select variables and sort information. You will also be introduced to two methods of creating new reports.

Expressions
Learn how to insert calculations into a report including how to calculate and print an employee's age.

Groups and Totals
Learn how to insert groups into existing reports to sub-section information and improve presentation, and how to use groups to create subtotals.

Criteria
Investigate prompting for dates, payment types and payment periods, even employee NI numbers when printing reports. Learn how to print your criteria on a report.

Filters
Find out how to add filters to reports to select specific information.

Creating Letters
Discover how to use the report designer to create various employee letters
